A New year- A New Experience

We began moving back to the mountain on April 11th.  Our first surprise was that we had been moved to a different cabin!?!  We are no longer down by the lake, but are up by the Guest Services where you first come into camp.  We are also on the opposite side of the cabin- so- we are living life backwards.  It's so fun to try and figure out where the bathroom is in the middle of the night!

More pictures of our beloved lake

We made two trips to move our stuff and got mostly settled in our new home. We attended several fun get-togethers in the evening with the other missionaries.  It's fun to see the missionaries we love, and meet the new missionaries we will be serving with.
We headed down on Saturday, after our interview with the managing directors. We went to g-kids games, spent the night at Robyn's and attended church with them on Sunday.

Monday we started our MTC.  We rotated through several different workshops learning about the rules and guidelines, different areas that we might be called to serve in, and Tuesday we spent the day being spiritually fed by our leaders.

We had dinner together up at camp on Monday night.  Tuesday the managing director's wives spoiled us with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Decorations were based on this years theme- Press Forward with a Steadfastness in Christ...

Monday, after dinner, we had our first "Marbles" game of the year!
We usually play on Sunday nights.

Friday morning is the big moment..... that is when we find out what our assignment for the summer will be.  They announce it from the pulpit. We had  hoped to be back at the lake this year.  Imagine our surprise when they announce that we will be serving on the-
Grounds Maintenance/Service Projects Team!!!
This will be a new challenge for us.  The Elswood's will be our team leaders.  We LOVE them!  We will love working with them.  We have 5 couples on the team.  We know the Scotts from last year.  We are excited to get to know the others. We don't know a lot of the specifics of our new assignment.  We do know that I will be driving a dump truck?!?, and Granger will be using a chain saw!  We will get to work closely with the girls on service projects around the camp.

Winter- Our Six Months Off

We had a fun, busy winter. Here are some of the highlights...
In October we went to Zions with Dayna, Robyn and their families.  We camped in a tent, hiked, and enjoyed time with our kids and grandkids.

In October, we also helped Robyn and Taryn while they had surgery- more fun time with the grandkids!

Our sweet 5-year-old Caiya was diagnosed with a retina blastoma in her right eye. This resulted in Robyn, Brian and Caiya making
several trips to Philadelphia for treatments at the Wills Eye Center.  We were able to go to Lehi for a week every month to take care of the other kids while they were gone.

Caiya's treatments have gone well.  She is not as far along as we would like to see her, but she is still making progress.

Granger's main storage cabinet in the garage fell apart so he spent a lot of time on KSL looking for replacement cabinets.  This was the final result.  He did a great job.

Travis and Kortny invited us to celebrate Halloween with them this year.  It was fun to watch Ryker trick-or-treat as a two-year-old.
We enjoyed Thanksgiving, watching Hallie in her school play and swimming, Kendall playing basket ball, Jackson playing indoor soccer, and many other activities.
I decided to get creative!

Celebrating our birthday!!! Aaron, Grandma and Hunter

Christmas is always exciting with our annual gathering and dinner at Tucano's for the whole crew.

January brought some home time with me quilting like crazy for customers, and trying to get some of my own stuff done.  Granger hung out doing Granger stuff.

Fun at the Zoo

We headed to Cancun for a week of fun with our friends, Gary and Robyn Bromley.

In March, we headed to Seattle for my sweet sister-in-law, Sylvia Butterfield's funeral.  It was sad to see her go, but, we were pleased to be able to make the trip before our mission resumed.
Love these brothers of mine!
Hanging with the family in Seattle!

All in all, we had a great six months off.  Now we are excited to return to our mission on the mountain!!!
